Gynecomastia (Male Breasts)

MASTECTOMY is a surgery to remove the entire breast.   This operation can either be unilateral (only one side) or bilateral (both breasts).  It is currently a common treatment for breast cancer, in either men or women.   There are several types of mastectomy procedures, which are distinguished by the amount of breast tissue and other tissues that are removed.  For men with gynecomastia (excess breast tissue) the procedure normally performed is the Subcutaneous Mastectomy or a Partial Mastectomy.  In men with gynecomastia, cancer is normally not the concern, however, breast tissue may be submitted for pathological testing.

In some cases, it is possible to achieve the desired result by doing liposuction only.  Only a consult with a plastic surgeon can help you decide whether or not liposuction is a good option in your situation.
