A BROW LIFT is a procedure performed often by plastic surgeons to raise the brow line. It is often done for patients who, with age, have excess tissue and muscle from the forehead that has migrated down over the upper eye, and may cause visual interference. It can be done either as an endoscopic procedure or a traditional, modified approach through an incision above the eyes. A Brow Lift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other facial surgery procedures such as a facelift or blepharoplasty. Brow Lift surgery is individualized for each patient. The best candidates for any plastic surgery are physically healthy and psychologically stable men and women who have realistic expectations of the benefits of the surgery. Most Brow Lift candidates are 35 or older, but if droopy, baggy eyelids or brow ptosis (drooping brows) run in your family, you may decide to have some type of eyelid or brow surgery at a younger age. A few medical conditions make eyelid surgery more risky. They include thyroid problems, such as hypothyroidism and Grave’s Disease, dry eye or lack of sufficient tears, high blood pressure or other circulatory disorders, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. A detached retina or glaucoma is also reason for caution; check with your ophthalmologist before you have surgery.
